Los Angeles Gopher

There are 5 species of gophers, or “pocket gophers” as they are more correctly named, that occur in California, however the most likely to be encountered is the Valley or Botta’s pocket gopher (Thomomys bottae).They are not spelled gofer or goffer like so many people do. Pocket gophers are a small rodent about 5 to 7″plus the tail. They come in a variety of colors but are most often grayish brown to brown. They have a short tail, tiny ears and eyes, and large, yellowish front teeth (incisors) which are always exposed
