Pest control operators did have other gopher poisons similar to that available to homeowners but much more effective. The poison was strychnine which is obtainable by homeowners at 0.5% strength. Previously, a licensed technician could buy 1.8% which was more effective. Because of a worldwide shortage of strychnine this is no longer available. Now even qualified professionals can only buy non-licensed strength poison which has limited effects.
